We’re excited to share how a bunch of our old workplace laptops have found a brand-new purpose – helping residents get online and feel more confident using tech!
We were proud to take part in the Greater Manchester Digital Inclusion Pilot, working with the Combined Authority and internet providers as one of five landlords involved. Now, we’ve used what we learnt to launch our own digital offer – and it’s already making a difference.
Our goal? To help more of you get connected, feel confident online and unlock the digital world – from managing your health to saving money and staying safe.
Here’s how it’s going so far:
All laptops come with Windows 11 and a charger, so they’re ready to go!
Debbie, a resident who received her refurbished laptop, said:
“Thank you, Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. I’ve been on the laptop for the past few days and learnt how to set up online banking – I even figured out how to do an online grocery shop. I can see how the digital world makes daily life flow easier. Thank you.”
“This is just one way we’re helping residents get online. We’re committed to finding creative, meaningful ways to support our community – and we’re only just getting started.”
Sarah Woolley, Senior Community Development Manager
The pilot is currently open by referral only while we test how it’s working. More laptops are lined up for recycling in September, and we’re actively welcoming IT donations from our contractors and partners.
Want to build your digital skills? We run free friendly sessions at Benchill Community Centre, including ICDL training – an internationally recognised computer qualification (there’s a small cost for this). We also offer free beginner IT classes at Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, where you can learn at your own pace.
